Kindred spirits

Click here to view the work of two Frenchmen who've scoured the streets of American cities for tattered movie palaces. Their photography is magnifique!

  1. Oh my goodness, this is so gorgeous! Thank you so much for your sharing, Mr Projectionist.

Hey, I am not sure whether you know that the Trang Rama has just closed down since the end of last month. I just got this sorrowful news from a friend of mine yesterday. Was the Trang Rama the last stand-alone movie theater in Southern Thailand?

  2. Dear Iris,

The news you just imparted about the closing of the Trang Rama is making me want to regurgitate the fried rice I just ate all over my lap top. Indeed another sad day in Thai movie theater history.

In answer to your query, I honestly cannot say for sure whether it was the last stand-alone in Thailand's south. I have only done a little bit of reconnaisance in southern Thailand. As far as I know the Trang Rama was owned by Coliseum - southern Thailand's sole distributor and largest exhibitor, headquartered down Hat Yai. Hopefully there are some more still in operation down there, so that when eventually I do get around to it I'll have something to photograph besides relics.

Thanks for being the bearer of bad news.
