The above photo comes courtesy of a SEA Movie Theater Project viewer/reader. It was taken in Nakon Phanom in the late 1980's. To be sure, I was in Nakon Phanom this past March and definitely didn't find this classic old cinema. Progress has since laid it to waste.It looks as if that's the name at the top, but it's a bit hard to make out.
Coincidentally, this past weekend I explored some new territory in Isan, which included a history lesson on the origins of the movie theater industry in that part of Thailand and it's former close ties with Laos.
